Andy B 2 Minute Video, A change is as good as a rest, S04E070

We might change the wallpaper or some paint to refresh a room. It can change our mood and lift that room so we want to spend more time with it.

From haircuts to wallpaper, and cars to our favourite restaurant, things change. Sometimes, the simplest things can make something appear entirely new and different.

In our lives as Christians it can beneficial to refresh our Christin faith too! Perhaps it’s time to change where or when you read the bible? Or to try a new devotional plan? Perhaps you could switch the bible translation you use.

When things become too familiar it can be helpful, but it can also hinder us as we get lazy and see what we want to see.

When I switched to a different bible translation, it refreshed my enjoyment of scripture. Now, I’ve almost always loved reading scripture. But, switching from the NIV 1984 version, to an ESV or CSB version really helped me see things in scripture I’d not seen before.

There’s always a risk when we make a change. But the greater the risk, the greater the reward can be. So, what is going asking you to change so you can become ever more like Jesus?

Just a thought…

So another Andy B 2 Minute Video, A Change Is As Good As A Rest.

Sometimes we can get a little bit stuck in a rut. We feel like, well, we want to take chances but we don’t want the risk. We, we want something to be different, but we don’t want to do what’s necessary to get there. And so we get stuck in these positions, where we keep on doing what we’ve always done, and we always end up with the same results. And it can be really quite frustrating. But sometimes a change is as good as a rest.

We’ve moved house a few months ago to a completely new part of the country. It’s amazing to be here! The countryside is beautiful, the people are friendly. It’s really amazing. And it’s like being on holiday, sometimes. Jo’s got a job, we’ve got Home Education and all the normal things. And yet, because everything has changed it, it’s really quite refreshing.

The BerryBunch ministry, which this is part of, we’ve been really blessed we got some money given to us as a gift so we’ve bought a camera which is filming me now. I managed to get some half price studio lights, which is awesome, ‘cos it’s making it nice and bright, and clear, and clean. And somebody else has blessed us with some money for some T-Shirts, so I’ve put an order in for those. There’s going to be lots of little changes. And just before I started speaking, you saw a little cool funky video, which I kind of semi made on a website aI found. So it’s just refreshing. It’s it’s building us up. It’s interesting. It’s exciting.

And so often in life, we can get stuck in this rut where we’re always doing the same things. And it’s like headbutting a wall. You’re just making no progress and just exhausting yourself in the process.

Where is God asking you to take some risks? Where is He asking you to do something that’s different? Maybe it’s to read your Bible at a different time of day, a different translation. I’d used the NIV 1984 version of the Bible for years, and years, and years, and years, and years. And I switched to the ESV, or the CSB or CSB. English Standard Version, Christian Standard Bible. They’re two different versions. It’s just bringing life to Scripture again. It’s just refreshing how I look at the Bible. Because I’m not seeing what I’ve always thought I knew, and it’s slightly different words, and it’s really fascinating.

Sometimes a change can be as good as a rest. What is God asking you to change today to refresh your soul, to refresh your life, so you can be even more of who God wants you to be?

  1. I come to this far later than I intended…but it was worth saving for later! How often we need something new to put a bit of zing into life, or even a Christian ministry serving God and His Kingdom. His message never changes but how we present it can change. What a great God we serve who gives us imagination in our life!

    1. God never changes. Amen! But, our ability to listen to Him certainly does…or is that just me?!?😉

  2. I think I may switch the translation for the Bible app as suggested, this is a great idea! God bless

    1. great – that’s super encouraging to me!

it forced to me actually, you know, read the bible again lol and i found so much richness in formerly familiar words

i still have the same bible i started using for preparing teaches and preaches, from 1995. it’s great – the concordance is good, and the pages open nicely. it is one less distraction when i’m trying to find something to prepare any sort of a message. but it also became, almost, too familiar – which is why i now read from the ESV, CSB and NLT – we all have a different preference in our home.

there’s good reasons to stick with a familiar text, but there are good reasons to mix it up sometimes too 🙂
