Hunger and thirst for righteousness
‘Blessed are those who hunger for righteousness..’ Matthew 5:6.
It’s good to question what we hunger and thirst for. Jesus tells us that if we hunger for righteousness; for the right things, we will be filled.
Both my reading plan and the UCB notes looked at John 4 and the story of the women at the well and I even quoted in a discussion last night. God must want me to hear this story!
Jesus makes it very clear to the women that he can satisfy and only he can satisfy our longing for life. Jesus says in John 4:13:
“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again’”( referring to the water in the well)
“but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
I need to reflect on how serious I am about my relationship with Jesus and how I can show him I am, but the following words from Jesus also struck me in John 4:23:
“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks. God is spirit and his worshippers must worship in the Spirit and in truth”
I want to put God first, seek his righteousness and definitely worship God in spirit and in truth, if that’s who the kind of person he’s after!
As the Scripture says,
‘But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well’ (Matthew 6:33)
