I have always been intrigued about how God saw King David as: ‘a man after God’s own heart’. How awesome it would be if God looked upon me as ‘a women after God’s own heart’! I must read again;’ ‘A man after God’s own heart’ by RT Kendall which is about King David and his special relationship with God.
Today I read how David was anointed as King and I read again the infamous David and Goliath story (1 Samuel 16 & 17), but what stuck out for me was the use of a harp in the bit about Saul being tormented by an evil spirit (1 Samuel 16:14-23).
Saul had been disobedient to God and therefore rejected as King and in fact the Spirit of the Lord had left Saul and God sent a spirit to torment Saul which made him depressed and afraid. David was able to play the harp and was chosen to do this for Saul. When David played the harp, Saul would feel better and the evil spirit left.
I believe the instrument that David actually played may have been a lyre, but I checked out some harp sounds and it is really relaxing to listen to the harp. I think the message for me today is to realise the importance of relaxing and take the time to do it. I found some harp music to listen to and relaxed!
