Sound guidance from 2 Timothy
It’s been another two years since my one and only Slowdown2point0 Blog in March 2017. Hopefully I will get back into blogging of my quiet times again and not stop so abruptly or for so long this time.
I started a 6 month Bible Reading Plan from a book called ‘Read Your Bible One Book at a Time’ on 8th August 2016 and almost a year later, I am not even halfway through the readings. The last book I read was Ezekiel which took 2 months, ooops!
Anywho, I read the whole of 2 Timothy this morning and found some helpful and encouraging verses to support me in my new role as Joint Children and Families Leader at St Mary’s Church in Andover as well as to help me in my own personal walk with the Lord.
Starters for ten 2 Timothy 1 verse 7:
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
We’ve been singing a song at All Age services and Children’s Church based on this verse ‘God’s not given us a spirit of fear but love, power and a sound mind …..
2 Timothy 2: 23-24 tells us quite strongly not to get into arguments and tells us we must be kind to everyone, able to teach and not be resentful.
In chapter 3, verse 12 makes it clear that those who want to live a godly live will be persecuted and verse 16:
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.
Paul talks in chapter 4 of how he was unsupported in his ministry, even being deserted by everyone – it happened to Paul as well!
In spite of this, Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 4:17:
But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength ….
The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom.
Amen to that!
