Marriage Matters – Longevity & the D Word, S1, E1

Andy and Jo kick off this brand-new series of Marriage Matters, looking at how we keep going and they go there – they talk openly about the D word – Divorce!

No way, I hear you cry – and the unmentionable on the first episode as well!

How can Andy and Jo talk about a lasting marriage, and Divorce, in the same episode, in the same sentence – this all sounds like Marriage Madness, not Marriage Matters. Or is it?

Marriage Matters – Coming Soon, Longevity and the ‘D’ Word

Andy B, Teaching: What is Reverence? (October 2021)

Andy B, Teaching: What is Reverence? (October 2021)

Is reverence something we need, as Christians, in the current world?

Is reverence a bygone requirement for believers, surpassed by the death and resurrection of Jesus?

Is reverence something we should be bothered about in our churches and families?

Andy B takes a look at something that he has been thinking through, and about, for more than 2 and a half years; pondering and chewing what he saw as a lack of reverence in so many churches, it seems normal.

Andy B 2 Minute Video, Autumn, Death and Life, S4, E20

After seeing some beautiful images of Autumn, or Fall – depending on what part of the world you live in – Andy B got thinking about cycles of life.

Because in life, just like those leaves, what can seem the end, can also just be the beginning of something else, and new.

There are always things which will blur how people will see us.

Much like my trusty boots, our identity can become confused by the scuffs and dents we all experience in life.

On my boots, they will always be the same brand. But, the name on the side, even though it is bright orange, is showing signs of age – after being used almost every day, all day, for a year.

We have a dehumidifier in our home. Because, in our last home, we had horrendous damp, which led to serious problems with mould.

And we were thankful that we were able to get some great advice about which sort of dehumidifier to buy. And so we bought the type we were advised to buy.

And ours really is superb. You set the humidity level you want in your home, which you can find in the manual, and you switch it on. That’s it – other than emptying the tank when it is full of water.

Andy B 2 Minute Video, Mud, Bicycles and the Cycle of Life, S4, E16

When we go cycling, things can stick to our tyres. If you go mountain biking, you might end up with plenty of mud liberally applied to your bike. And if you’re really unfortunate, you’ll end up with a clay/grass mix that will stick to the outside of your tyre, and weight your bike down enough that you struggle up hills you can normally cycle up, without much effort or thought.

Well this is exactly what happened to Jo, and her bike, when we were out Mountain Biking one day.

It seemed as though the weight of her bike had been doubled! And holding a pile of it in my hands, after I’d scraped it off her bike, I could easily believe it.

When a well runs out of water, it doesn’t necessarily mean that there is no water left – just that the water table may have dropped, so our well runs out of water. When we dig down a bit further, we find that water again, and our fill will be filled with water once more.

And in our relationship, and walk, as disciples of Jesus Christ, we can often feel as though God has moved away from us.

Andy B 2 Minute Video, Velcro Tabs, and Spot The Difference!

We have several items in our recording studio that are nearly identical. They may be the same length, or the same brand, they may just look really similar. And this can make setting up the studio entertaining, when you’re trying to connect one specific microphone, or whatever.

Andy B loves simple solutions to life’s troubles, so when he had given up trying to be patient plugging into cables, that he can never tell apart, he came up with a solution – velcro.

Andy B took Jo for her return trip to the dentist, but while Andy and Jo share many traits and interests, one thing Jo does REALLY well, is not worrying about things she either has no control over, or things that haven’t yet come to pass.

With a hyper-sensitivity to needles, Andy would have been worrying for two weeks straight, letting the anxiety grow, thinking through the various things that could go wrong. Positive side of that trait, is the ability to read ahead, see the problems before they happen and prevent them – which makes event planning really easy.

Andy B 2 Minute Video, Fruit, Dentists, Words and Actions, S4, E10

Andy B 2 Minute Video, Fruit, Dentists, Words and Actions, S4, E10

Matthew 7 verse 16 says that by our fruits we will be known.

This means that our actions are more important than our words because words, while very important, don’t necessarily lead to change, or action. But by their very definition, actions, are the outworking of what we truly believe and think.

Andy took his wife to the dentist and it made him think about what we can, each of us, do every single day to show the love of Jesus Christ to the people we meet, to the people we love, to people who know Jesus again, to people who need to know Jesus for the first time.

Andy B 2 Minute Video, We’re Going On A Bear Hunt, S4, E9

The bible clearly teaches us that we should expect to find people in positions of authority in our churches, and church communities, who exist simply to destroy.

Jesus dealt with it and so did Paul, so we shouldn’t be surprised.

We shouldn’t accept it either! But how can we work out who is for Jesus, and who is not?

Church can mean lots of different things to different people.

For some it is a place you’d only visit on high days and holidays – Christmas and Easter, and maybe birth and death!

For others it is somewhere we see as the place we go to each Sunday morning to worship God with other believers.

But, far too often it is also better known for everything that is nothing to do with Jesus or the gospel!

Parenting can be tough. But, thankfully, there is a instruction manual we can download that will teach us all we ever needed to know.

Our lives on this planet, are not designed to be lived out in isolation. God made us to live in Community.

And in the bible, we find the perfect instructions to live the best lives we can, and see perfect examples of how to parent.

Andy B 2 Minute Video, Weeds, Flowers and Cultivation, S4, E5

Andy B 2 Minute Video, Weeds, Flowers and Cultivation, S4, E5

Each day we get to choose what we cultivate in our hearts and minds.

Some people can be great at gardening. Then, there are people like us: I’ve spent time lovingly nurturing and caring for a weed, which I’d thought was actually a flower.

And we can do that in our spiritual lives too – we can spend so much time developing something that doesn’t have good roots or foundation!

As disciples of Jesus Christ we need to be constantly checking in God, and Scripture, to ensure that those things in our lives that we are working on, are flowers not weeds; that they’re good for us, not bad; that we’re building God’s Kingdom, not our own.

Andy B 2 Minute Video, Don’t Wait To Live, S4, E4

Andy B 2 Minute Video, Don’t Wait To Live, S4, E4

Andy and Jo are fasting for a week, because of some big life decisions coming up in the future, and found themselves waiting for these big changes to occur, before they start really enjoying living life to the full.

Can you relate to this? Waiting for something external to improve before you start enjoying life, and experiencing the joy that a relationship with Jesus Christ gives us?

It’s easy waiting for a better moment to start dieting, or going to the gym. We can wait for the perfect moment until we make the move for a better career, or tackling that unloved garden.

But, tomorrow never comes!

Andy B 2 Minute Video Vlog, Keepin on Keeping On, S3, E13

Some days and weeks can be easier than others.
Sometimes, we can hit Tuesday morning and feel like the end of our working week is further than we can manage.
But God reminds, us repeatedly, that when we put our hands and lives in His, we’ll always what we need, to accomplish what He desires for us to accomplish – when we walk and work with Him.

Busy days and God’s rhythm

Busy days and God’s rhythm

God’s intentions for our busiest and quietest day, rarely look what we might think. In a bid to give God a helping hand with our lives should be, and how we think He should help us make them look, there is God smiling lovingly, and patiently waiting for us to ask Him what His best plan is for us.

Three small letters, choices, and Jesus!

Three small letters, choices, and Jesus!

“Do not be anxious………….”

That moment when you question what you just did was one I had today; one of those oops moments which makes you want to scream out loud as sweat pours from your brow and you feel yourself tensing up.

I see myself as fairly ok with technology. After all, as a family, we produce regular, weekly and seasonal broadcasts which we create, edit, film and publish all by ourselves. I’m not a computer genius…just somebody who has learned to utilise technology for a wide array of projects.

I’ve built and managed websites for a business we ran, and have been paid to do so by others; I’ve managed social media accounts and campaigns for charities in different cities and created interactive newsletters for professionals; I’ve upgraded hardware in the computers we use – since we can’t afford to buy brand new, this is just something you learn to do.

So I don’t see myself as somebody who panics when a computer won’t turn on.

What dreams does God want you to be working on?

What dreams does God want you to be working on?

I’ve spent a chunk of today creating some graphics and a draft advert for a new project we’ll be launching, God willing, this coming Autumn.

While I’ve got plenty to do preparing for our next, and coming very soon, seasons of Endurance and Little Blessings Online, I also sometimes need to switch to something different.
