Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding

So, I finished the book of Judges. It wasn’t easy. I’ll be honest, I really didn’t like reading about Samson in chapters 13-16. Although Samson was a miracle, was set apart as a Nazirite and had an amazing gift of strength, the story of his life is quite sad. Samson fought with the Philistines all his life, but decided he wanted to marry one, but this marriage didn’t actually happen in the end and the philistine woman he wanted to marry ended up marrying someone else which made Samson very angry. Later, Samson fell in love with Delilah, another Philistine, but she betrayed Samson which resulted in his eyes being gouged out. However, God restored Samson’s strength for one final big act against the Philistines. This final act brought about Samson’s own death, but also the death of many Philistines present. Samson managed to have revenge for what the Philistines had done to his eyes. What can we learn from Samson? Well, it ‘s true that Samson wasted his life, but he still accomplished the purpose announced by the angel. And Samson’s failures are not mentioned in Hebrews 11:33 where in that chapter the great men of faith are listed. At the end of Samson’s life he realised his need for God. When Samson died, God turned his failures into victory. Samsung’s life story in Judges teaches us that it’s never too late to start again with God. No matter how badly we have messed up in life, it’s never too late to put all our trust in God.

Proverbs 3:5-6:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him and He will make your path straight.
