"Our list of allies grows thin"soldiers

In life, we can feel like we are fighting a losing battle or we’re on the losing side.

Whether we are tackling fitness or weight loss, facing health issues, dealing with stress and anxiety, or raising children. Whether we are learning new things, studying for qualifications, juggling various demands on our time, facing ever increasing workloads or dealing with a multitude of challenging situations in life -we might feel like we are running out of options or steam!

In the Lord of the Rings, there are many times when it looks like the enemy is winning and it becomes hard to believe that all who are standing for what is good in the world could even stand a chance of overcoming the darkness.

The scripture tells us not to give up doing good:

‘Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.’ (Galatians 6:9)

When all the different parties joined together as the Council of Elrond at Elrond’s place – Elrond being the King of the elves in that neck of the woods – Gandalf the wizard shared something quite concerning. Gandalf had had a personal run in with Saruman, the head of the wizards who was supposed to be good but had betrayed them all and turned to the dark side! Basically, Saruman had changed sides to serve the Dark Lord.

In response to this news flash, King Elrond said this:

“Our list of Allies grows thin”

Elrond succinctly summed up the fact that the good guys were losing support and things were looking bad. As I said at the start, we can feel like we are on the losing side or the weakest side and understandably, this is maybe what Elrond was feeling in view of the developing situation!

If you are feeling like Elrond and can see support dwindling in life’s circumstances, then remember that Jesus has overcome the enemy and if you are a follower of Christ, you are on the winning side, no matter what!

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Why not watch Carman live – The Champion? Or American Marines singing ‘Days of Elijah’ to rally you!

Oorah!
