On this episode, we talk about how to have timing in our spiritual walks.

Endurance is your weekly spiritual workout, whether you think of yourself as a beginner, an intermediate, or advanced!

#GoDeeper

In this week’s GoDeeper Steven relates queuing, waiting for the bus, and being on hold to those times or seasons of waiting in life.

He goes on to emphasise the importance of God’s timing compared to our own timing, because ultimately, God sees the bigger picture.

Sometimes we can feel as though we are waiting for ages for something that we have prayed for, but we must trust God. Other times we can feel like we are not ready for something, like a calling, but again we must trust God.

Steven concludes that ultimately, we need to trust in God and in His timing.

You can read the GoDeeper transcript here.

#GoDo

For the final segment, Nathan questions Steven about points from his GoDeeper:

  1. How long do we have to wait before we can justify being impatient?
  2. That Scripture verse in Isaiah says we will soar like eagles. I’m not overly keen on heights. I shan’t really have to fly at really high altitudes, shall I?
  3. It sounds as though achieving the right timing in our obedience to God is quite a tricky business. How are we supposed to get our timing right?
  4. What time is it?

Watch this week’s episode to find out Steven’s answers to these questions.

Nathan 0:23
Hello, and welcome to Endurance, your weekly spiritual workout with Steven and me, Nathan. This week we're looking at the idea of timing, in particular, the fact that God's timing is always better than our timing. And we've titled it, Timing Is Everything. So, shortly, Steven is going to elaborate this topic. And he's even he even has a testimony, which he's going to share with us. That should be very interesting. And as usual, after that, he and I will discuss the topic further. I'll ask him some questions. And hopefully, I'll make them as difficult as possible for him to answer. So this is Endurance, enjoy.

Nathan 1:14
People are like trees, they need a long time to change. So be patient. #SpeakTruth.

Steven 1:25
This is Endurance GoDeeper with me, Steven, let's let's roll. We're looking at timing is everything and how God's timing is absolutely perfect. That's the timing we need to aim for. And I guess there's two sides to this coin. There's, let's start off. Sometimes we have to wait. Sometimes we have to be patient, things take longer than perhaps we would like. And the other side is that sometimes we have to muck in and get in there because things are quicker than we might like. So first of all, let's look at the idea of having to wait, God's timing not being ours all the time.

Steven 2:00
We have to be patient because God sees the bigger picture he sees when things should happen. So I mean like, we all hate queuing, or waiting for the bus, going on hold and having that awful music on them, all these, don't know what you call it. But when you're on hold and this awful music, we all hate waiting. But there is real value in waiting because it's what God calls us to do a lot of the time when we're praying for something we have to wait.

Steven 2:29
The Bible has quite a lot to say about it. If you look at David or Abraham they both had to wait for what God promised. Waiting for God's promises, David to become king and Abraham for a child. David waited and it was all perfect in the end. But Abraham tried to rush things a little and it went pear shaped. I got a few scriptures here from mostly Isaiah. First of all, Isaiah 40 verses 28 to 31. One we're quite familiar with about the soaring on eagles, no, soaring like eagles. Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the whole earth. He never becomes faint or weary, there is no limit to his understanding. He gives strength to the faint and strengthens the powerless. Youths may become faint and weary, and young men stumble and fall. But those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint.

Steven 3:36
When we trust in God, we're trusting in his timing at the same time. And if we do that we can soar on wings like eagles, at the appropriate time. Because timing is everything. And Psalms 27 14 gives us a command, really. Wait for the Lord, be strong and let your heart be courageous. Wait for the Lord. Comes up twice. It's really important. And Isaiah 55 8, For my thoughts are not your thoughts and your ways are not my ways. This is the Lord's declaration. God sees the bigger picture. His ways are not our ways. His ways are much better than ours, far beyond our understanding. I think is one of the translations.

Steven 4:20
His timing is best. We need to wait on Him, mustn't rush into bad decisions, especially when it comes to things like prayer. I think when we pray, we can be impatient with God's answer. And often he gives us yes, no or wait. And often we can be waiting for that answer to prayer. And we've heard hear about it all the time, people waiting decades for an answer and the answer finally comes and they can see how it all worked out in the end. Interesting I've got a bit of a testimony really for that.

Steven 4:52
Me and Nathan had been a bit without bikes for a couple years. Due to COVID frames weren't being made and stuff like that. So we haven't had one bikes, which is, been bit of a shame, really. But we've been praying for them, we've been looking out for them, but they just haven't been available. And then if they have been available, we haven't had necessarily the funds for them. And just this last week, we had the money. We had the they were available, and it just all came together. And there we are. We have bikes, it all happened very suddenly. And so now we have bikes, the perfect timing where we are all part of God's plan, I reckon. We were praying, and here we are with the bikes. God's timing is best.

Steven 5:37
Are there are good reasons to wait. See, God builds anticipation builds anticipation. Because God sees the big picture ultimately. I think I've said that a few times now. And the other side of this coin is that sometimes God gets us do things and we can lag behind. He wants us to get in there and do what he's asked us to do. But there is a timing and sometimes it's too soon for us we're like, wow, wow wow, I'm not ready. But God's saying yeah, you already, you need to act. But ultimately, what we're saying is, you need to look to God's timing. Listen to His Holy Spirit, listen to through Him, His Word. And trust in His timing ultimately.

Jo 6:28
So let's pray. Andy's going to come on and show us how to pray. Excellent. What, what have you got there?

Andy 6:34
It's my world's atlas.

Jo 6:36
Okay.

Andy 6:36
So I can pray for the world.

Jo 6:37
Okay.

Andy 6:38
You see, prayer's good.

Jo 6:39
Right. Okay. You're gonna show us how to do that then.

Andy 6:41
Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So I've gone, I've got my atlas. And if you go to the letter A, I'm going to start here. So,

Jo 6:47
Yeah?

Andy 6:48
please God, please bless A ben rar and Ar chen and Ar borg.

Jo 6:54
What did you like about the story?

Andy 6:56
Bob.

Jo 6:57
Bob? You like Bob?

Andy 6:58
And the stick.

Jo 7:00
You like the stick?

Andy 7:01
We like sticks a lot, I do.

Jo 7:03
Okay, well, we'll try and make sure there's more stories with sticks in, Dave, especially for you.

Nathan 7:12
So, Steven, this is the time when I interview you on your talk. Are you ready for these questions?

Steven 7:19
No.

Nathan 7:20
Good. How long do we have to wait before we can justify being impatient? Because I've had to wait in queues for ages before now. And surely there is a time period, a time period in which God requires you to be patient. But after that, you know, we can justify being a bit impatient?

Steven 7:40
I don't know what to say to that. Part of the fruit of spirit is patience. So you need to develop patience. I don't mean, you need patience. There's no justification for sinning in patience. I think you can be impatient. I think everyone's human. There's a certain point where it's like, forget it. But you shouldn't sin in that impatience perhaps. And you need to do your best to maintain a level of patience.

Nathan 8:13
Yeah.

Steven 8:13
Is that what you mean?

Nathan 8:15
Yeah. Yeah, good point. That verse, that verse in Isaiah 40 said we should soar like eagles. Now I'm not overly keen on heights. I shan't really have to fly at really high altitude, shall I?

Steven 8:28
It's metaphorical.

Nathan 8:30
But could you could you explain it, perhaps?

Steven 8:33
Soar on wings. When an eagle soars, right, it's do with the heat. They're not really. They're just gliding. It's kind of that idea of floating. It's easy, straightforward.

Nathan 8:45
From scientific facts here. You should be taking notes.

Steven 8:49
If I'm correct. Does that answer your question?

Nathan 8:53
Yes. Yes, quite. So it sounds as though achieving the right timing in our obedience to God is quite a tricky business. How are we supposed to get our timing right? There's lots of different factors in life and lots of different things to take into consideration. How do we know how when God wants us to do something?

Steven 9:16
Good question. I guess that's the question we're all trying to answer in our own lives. You've just got to listen to God, understand more about him through reading the Bible is a good one.

Nathan 9:27
Yeah.

Steven 9:27
Through prayer, through listening to the Holy Spirit. All the usual. Yeah, I think that answers it, don't it.

Nathan 9:38
Yeah. Okay. Good. So do you know what time it is? By the way, speaking of timing,

Steven 9:46
Do I have to answer that?

Nathan 9:47
I shall answer it. Oh, yeah getting on in time. We should be getting some food, oh, anyway. So, thank you very much, Steven. Hope you enjoyed this week's episode of Endurance and you have some idea of how to go about your days getting God's timing in your life. So, goodbye and we'll see you next week.
